Students will not need to apply formally for graduate admission if accepted into this program.

Application Requirements and Processes:

Applications will be processed by the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (NOT through CalState Apply). They are processed without an application fee. All application documents should be collated into a single pdf and sent to the department via the program coordinator.

Graduate Standing Requirements

Requirements for program continuation and advancement to candidacy in the graduate program, include:

  • Meeting every semester with an academic advisor to plan and track coursework and graduate status.
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Once the BS degree is conferred, students meet every semester with their graduate advisor to plan a formal course of study.
  • The proposed graduate program must be approved by the graduate coordinator before the student may be considered a candidate for the MS degree.

Dismissal from Program

  • Dismissal by the ISE Department if students do not meet continuation requirements (GPA of 3.0 or higher).
  • An exit ramp from the SAGE program to the traditional ISE BS program will be accessible for all students who have not yet converted to graduate status. Exiting can be initiated by the student for any reason. If the student opts out of, or fails to complete the Master’s degree portion of the program, the following will apply:
    • Credit earned for graduate coursework and used to complete the bachelor’s degree may not be used to satisfy unit requirements of the Master’s degree.

Converting to Graduate Status and Advancing to Candidacy

Once the student has completed or will complete 120 degree applicable units within the semester of filing for transition into the graduate program, the advisor must fill out a second SAGE Program Course of Study Plan (checking Box B) to transition into the graduate program and advance to candidacy. This form should be sent to both the Registrar’s Office to prepare for the Bachelor’s degree graduation evaluation and the Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations Office (GAPE) for processing and placement of the student into the graduate career. The advisor will obtain the graduate program coordinator’s signature prior to routing. As this form will also confirm advancement to candidacy, the following eligibility requirements apply for courses counted in the Master’s degree including those courses to be  double counted:

  1. GPA of at least 3.00 cumulative in undergraduate career & completed graduate coursework with a ‘C’ or better;
  2. Graduate program designated GWAR course listed on SAGE Program Course of Study Plan;
  3. At least 50% of the graduate program must be 200-level courses and at least 60% of the  designated graduate courses must be letter graded.

Roadmap Notes

*Approved Graduate Elective courses - ISE 234, ISE 235, ISE 241, ISE 243, ISE 247, ISE 265

The standalone Industrial and Systems Engineering, BS requires ISE 135, ISE 170, and ISE 155. Students satisfy this requirement in this SAGE Scholars Program by completing ISE 202, ISE 230, and ISE 245, respectively. Industrial and Systems Engineering, Concentration in Operational Analytics, MS  requires 9 units of Approved Electives. Students satisfy 6 units of Approved Electives in this SAGE Scholars Program by completing ISE 245 and a graduate level elective in the BS Industrial and Systems Engineering program. These 12 units are considered to count toward both the graduate and undergraduate degrees, thus allowing SAGE students to meet the minimum unit requirements for both degrees.
