Business Administration, General Business Concentration, BS (SJSU Online)

The General Business concentration, offered by the Department of Marketing and Business Analytics , offers students a broad spectrum of courses to prepare them for careers in small, medium-sized or family businesses and for jobs with companies that train new employees in a specific job largely unrelated to a functional area such as managing a large retail store or servicing technology company’s customers.

Program Delivery

The program is delivered completely online. Classes are delivered fully online both asynchronously (no designated days/times) and synchronously (designated days/times).

Program Roadmaps

The 2-Year Roadmaps are available online. Roadmaps should be used in consultation with the catalog and your advisor to identify additional requirements for completing the major (for example, course grade minimums). 

Transfer Units (60 units)

All applicants are required to have completed at least 60 transferable semester or 90 quarter units with an overall grade point average of 2.0 or better. Applicants must also have completed the Core Lower Division General Education Requirements (39 units), including all four CSU-approved Basics Skills courses, each with a C- or better:

GE Area 1A (Formerly Area A2) Written English Composition
GE Area 1B (Formerly Area A3) Critical Thinking/Logic
GE Area 1C (Formerly Area A1) Oral Communication/Speech
GE Area 2 (Formerly Area B4) Math/Quantitative Reasoning (above the level of intermediate algebra)

1. Complete the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements


Students must satisfy the specific degree requirements for their undergraduate major and fulfill the following University degree requirements: 

  1. Academic  (program total units with an average 2.0 GPA - “C” or better)

  2. General Education (GE)  (34 Lower Division + 9 Upper Division)

  3. American Institutions (AI)  (0-6 units) (may be satisfied in GE Areas 3B, 4, UD 3, UD 4)

  4. Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR)  (3 units)

  5. Physical Education (PE)  (0-2 units)

  6. Units in Residence  (30 units, including 24 upper division and 12 in major) 

  7. Upper Division Units  (40 units, including 12 upper div in major for BA, 18 upper div in major for BS)​

Exceptions for University Graduation Requirements including exemptions and waivers, are approved for specific majors and on a case-by-case evaluation only.

Up to 12 units of coursework can be from any one department. The following courses must be completed with grades of “C-” or better.

Select at least one course from the Department of Marketing and Business Analytics, and at least one course from either the School of Management or the School of Global Innovation and Leadership. Up to 6 units can be advisor approved transfer credit.

Additional Courses (6 units)


Any upper division business courses. Please see an advisor for a current list of acceptable courses.
