Sociology, BA (2020-2021) (AA-T Global Studies or AA-T Social Justice Studies)

The AA-T in Global Studies or AA-T in Social Justice Studies guarantees the student will transfer with the completion of 60 transferable semester units. Students who earn either of these transfer degrees will meet the 39 units of lower division GE and 21 units of elective credit at SJSU. Below is the path to the BA Sociology degree in 60 semester units for students who earn either the AA-T in Global Studies or AA-T in Social Justice Studies.

ENGL 2 - Critical Thinking and Writing or equivalent 3 units
SOCI 1 - Introduction to Sociology (if taken then elective) 3 units
SOCI 15 - Statistical Applications in the Social Sciences (if taken then elective) or SOCI 102 3 units
SOCI 80 - Social Problems (if taken then elective) 3 units
Additional upper division major requirement SOCI course 3 units

2nd Semester (15 units)

SJSU Studies Area S in US History. HIST 170S - Topics in American History: American Identities and Institutions meets US1 and Area S (if US1 was met previously then take a different Area S course) 3 units
SOCI 100W - Writing Workshop course also satisfies SJSU Studies Area Z 3 units
SOCI 101 - Social Theory 3 units
SOCI 116 - Global Society 3 units
Additional any upper division SOCI course 3 units

Year 2

3rd Semester (15 units)

SJSU Studies Area V in US & California Government. POLS 170V - American Politics in Global Perspective meets US2, US3 and Area V. If US2,US3 was met previously then take a different Area V course 3 units

SOCI 105 - Qualitative Research Methods 3 units

Roadmap Notes

A minimum of 40 upper division units must be completed for degree. This roadmap is a sample pathway. Check with a major advisor regarding the most appropriate course sequence for you. 60 units minimum will be transferred with this degree, however up to 70 transfer units can be applied to the lower division and lower division electives if articulated.
