English, Preparation for Teaching (Single Subject), BA (2024-2025) (AA-T English)

The AA-T in English guarantees 60 transferable units and the completion of all lower division Core GE. This transfer degree will meet the 15 units of lower division English coursework requirement at SJSU.

Below is the path to the BA in English, Preparation for Teaching degree in 60 semester units for students who earn the AA-T in English.

ENGL 100W - Writing Workshop 4 units (Writing in the Disciplines)
ENGL 50 - Beginnings to the American Experiment OR ENGL 70 - Emerging Modernisms and Beyond 3 units
ENGL 101 - Introduction to Literary Criticism 4 units
**Foreign Language Course OR Equivalency through Language Proficiency Exam 3-4 units
- if exam is taken and passed, then take a Lower OR Upper Division University Elective

2nd Semester (15-16 units)

Roadmap Notes

A minimum of 40 upper division units must be completed for degree. This roadmap is a sample pathway. Check with a major advisor regarding the most appropriate course sequence for you. 60 units minimum will be transferred with this degree, however up to 70 transfer units can be applied to the lower division and lower division free electives if articulated.

** Students must take two 3-4 unit foreign language courses to meet the 1 year of a foreign language requirement. Alternatively, students can waive this requirement through the Language Proficiency Exam; this exam will only waive the foreign language requirement (but not the units required for a degree). If the Language Proficiency Exam is taken and passed, students will need to take lower or upper division elective courses to make up for the outstanding units not waived by the exam.
