ANTH 136 - Thought Control in Contemporary Society 3 units Anthropological analysis of sociocultural controls influencing and regulating human thought and behavior in the contemporary period. Topics include propaganda, censorship, undue influence, coercive persuasion and “brainwashing,” groupthink, messianic cults, totalitarianism, technologies of control, ritualized rebellion, resistance movements, and democratic alternatives.
Prerequisite(s): Upper division standing. Grading: Letter Graded
