AMS 129 - The U.S. in a Global Context

The United States has been interconnected with and part of a larger Western hemisphere, as well as part of global political, economic, ecological, and cultural networks, from the times of European colonization to the present. This course explores the ways that Indigenous American and U.S. cultures, peoples, and institutions have been globally interconnected. To explore these connections and links, students will analyze a range of texts, artifacts, works of art, etc., from around the world. Topics may include foreign policy, colonization & decolonization, immigration, mercantilism and global capitalism, consumerism, propaganda, mass culture, warfare, environmental colonialism, etc.

Prerequisite(s): Upper division standing
Grading: Letter Graded
