Aircraft loads, V-n diagram; spacecraft boost loads. Free-body diagrams. 2-D force and moment equilibrium. Centroid and area moment of inertia. Internal loads diagrams (axial and shear forces, torsional and bending moments); cantilevered wings & internal support structures; stress/str ain relationships; material properties, microstructure, and imperfections; material selection. Experimental strain measurement, experimental material properties testing.

Prerequisite(s): “C” or better in PHYS 50 and (MATH 31 or MATH 31X) or graduate standing.
