AE 119 - Finite Element Analysis for Aerospace Applications 3 units Physical and mathematical foundations of the finite element method with emphasis on aerospace applications.
Topics include: static FEM for the analysis of flexible wings as 1D, 2D and 3D bodies, optimal mesh definition, introduction to modeling of damping and inertia loads, introduction to FEM modal and harmonic analyses for space systems based on launcher requirements. Applications using commercial FEA software packages for aerospace systems.
Prerequisite(s): AE 114 (with a C or better grade). Grading: Letter Graded.
