PHYS 257 - General Relativity 3 units General Relativity is the foundation for modern understanding of space and time. Coverage includes review of Special Relativity followed by the development of the mathematical tools of tensor calculus and Riemannian geometry and derivation of Einstein’s field equations from the postulates of General Relativity. Topics covered include the energy-momentum tensor, geodesics, and curvature tensors, as well as applications of the theory to Black Holes, gravitational waves, and cosmology.
Prerequisite(s): PHYS 130 and PHYS 110B, or equivalent. Upper division standing or graduate standing. Grading: Letter Graded
