Admissions Requirements | Graduate Standing Requirements | Advising Roadmap
The Corporate Accounting and Finance Spartan Accelerated Graduate Education (SAGE) Programs enables qualified students in the BSBA Corporate Accounting and Finance program to simultaneously complete the requirements for both the baccalaureate and master’s degrees. Students can progress from undergraduate to graduate status seamlessly, with a simplified application process and no application fee, and complete both degrees in less time as compared to completing them separately. This will provide cost savings to the student.
Admission Requirements
All corporate accounting and finance undergraduates are eligible to apply for, and be admitted to, the SAGE Corporate Accounting and Finance program in Spring semester of their junior year if they fulfill the following requirements by June 1 of that year:
- Completed a minimum of 90 units towards the BS degree;
- Completed BUS1 170 (Fundamentals of Finance) and BUS2 90 (Business Statistics) with grades of B or better;
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better, or GPA of 3.2 or better in the last 60 semester units;
- Completed all lower division GE requirements.
Graduate Standing Requirements
Requirements for program continuation and advancement to candidacy in the graduate program, include:
- Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher with no individual course grade below a C.
- Students not maintaining these standards will be placed on probation initially, followed by disqualification if grades are not improved.
- A GPA of 3.0 is required to earn the SAGE Finance degre.
Upon completion of the fourth year, the student will have fulfilled all requirements for the baccalaureate degree and may choose to leave with a baccalaureate degree at that point. However, credits earned for graduate coursework used to complete the Bachelor’s degree cannot be applied to the Master’s degree requirements.
MAINTAINING ACADEMIC STANDING IN SAGE PROGRAMS
SAGE scholars are required to maintain good academic standing and are expected to meet with their SAGE advisor each semester to review their academic progress.
To transition into the graduate career, SAGE Scholars must maintain good academic standing in the semester before completing 120 eligible units in the SAGE program.
If a SAGE Scholar is not in good standing (i.e., on Academic Notice or Administrative Probation) in the semester prior to completing 120 eligible units, and the bachelor’s degree has not yet been awarded, they will be removed from the SAGE program and returned to their standalone undergraduate degree program. Students may apply for the graduate degree once they complete their undergraduate degree.
Undergraduate SAGE Scholars placed on Academic Notice for failing to maintain a 2.0 GPA will be notified by the Registrar’s Office, and this will be noted on their transcript. These students will be removed from the SAGE program and reverted to undergraduate-only status. Similarly, students in SAGE programs that require a higher GPA must also maintain that standard; failing to do so will result in removal from the SAGE program.
For SAGE Scholars in graduate status who are placed on notice for not meeting the minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 or other standards, they must resolve their probation under the same policies applicable to their department’s graduate program.
If a SAGE Scholar has converted to graduate status and leaves the program in good standing, the following will apply:
Credits earned for graduate coursework used to complete the Bachelor’s degree cannot be applied to the Master’s degree requirements.
Credits earned for graduate coursework that count toward the Master’s degree may be applied to an SJSU graduate program upon approval and subject to graduate course revalidation.
Once a student is removed from a SAGE program due to academic or administrative notice, they become ineligible for any SAGE program.
To exit the SAGE program at any time, students should contact their advisor or the College Success Center. Appeals can be directed to the Associate Deans of the College of Graduate Studies (Dr. Amy Leisenring or Dr. Jeff Honda) for review.
