Roadmap Notes

Students must have 60 units to enter into the Major: BA in Social Work; there is only one Lower Division Requirement: STAT 95 , which can be taken to also satisfy GE Area B4 Requirement. The following courses Required in the Major must be completed with a grade of “C or better”: SCWK 110 SCWK 111 SCWK 112 SCWK 120 SCWK 130 SCWK 140 SCWK 141 SCWK 142 , and SCWK 175 . The following courses must be completed with “Credit”: SCWK 140 , SCWK 141  and SCWK 142 .

* Either B1 or B2 must be taken with a B3 - Laboratory .
** We refer to these courses as the CORE Courses necessary to make progress in the major. One cannot go into the year-long field placement internship (SCWK 141 /SCWK 142 ) if these courses are not passed with a C or better (SCWK 140 : CREDIT). Thus, if students do not meet that criteria, then depending on the courses in which they are not successful, they may be restricted in the courses they are able to take in their 2nd semester in the major. This may require that they stay an entire additional year in order to repeat one or more of the Core Courses.
*** There is no required order in which the SJSU Studies courses (except Area Z) must be taken for the BA in Social Work; take them as they are available to best fit into your schedule.
