African American Studies, BA (2024-2025) (AA-T Global Studies or AA-T Social Justice Studies)

The AA-T in Global Studies or AA-T in Social Justice Studies guarantees the student will transfer with the completion of 60 transferable semester units. Students who earn either of these transfer degrees will meet the 39 units of lower division GE and 21 units of elective credit at SJSU.
Below is the path to the BA in African American Studies degree in 60 semester units for students who earn either the AA-T in Global Studies or AA-T in Social Justice Studies.

4th Semester (15 units)
- Select 12 units from: AFAM 102 , AFAM 105 , AFAM 106 , AFAM 110 , AFAM 111 , AFAM 112 , AFAM 115 , AFAM 120 , AFAM 125 , AFAM 142 , AFAM 155A , AFAM 155B , AFAM 156 , AFAM 157 , AFAM 158 , AFAM 159 , AFAM 160 , AFAM 161 , AFAM 162 , AFAM 165 (repeatable), or AFAM 166 12 total units

Roadmap Notes
A minimum of 40 upper division units must be completed for degree. This roadmap is a sample pathway. Check with a major advisor regarding the most appropriate course sequence for you. 60 units minimum will be transferred with this degree, however up to 70 transfer units can be applied to the lower division and lower division electives if articulated.
** Must complete the entire sequence (AFAM 2A and AFAM 2B) to satisfy the American Institutions requirement (US123).
