The Native American and Indigenous Studies Minor, offered by the Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences , promotes an understanding of American Indian history, cultures, and tribal sovereignty, focusing on the urban Indigenous experience and indigeneity in a global context. Native American and Indigenous epistemologies challenge the Western understanding of the history and cultural development of the United States through the centering of Native American and Indigenous perspectives and contributions. The program provides a critical analysis of sovereignty in all forms and a comparative examination of Indigenous nations, communities, and peoples as distinct American polities.
