Dual Admission Program Between SJSU and Evergreen Valley Community College

The Nursing, Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) ADN to BSN (formerly Nursing, Integrated Community College Pathway, BS (ICCP) is a joint program between Evergreen Valley Community College (EVCC) and The Valley Foundation School of Nursing  in which students are concurrently enrolled in both. The CEP program allows students to complete an Associate Degree in Nursing, apply and sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Nurses (NCLEX-RN), and complete post licensure nursing content and upper general education courses to earn a BS Nursing. 

Program Roadmap

Students enrolled in the CEP follow the Concurrent Enrollment Program ADN to BSN roadmap designed to satisfy the Associate Degree in Nursing from EVC and the Nursing BS requirements in 5 semesters or only 2.5 years of enrollment at SJSU. 

  • Semester 1:
    • ​​Students take 9 units of the EVCC Associate Degree in Nursing Program. 
    • SJSU NURS100wE Evidence Based Practice Writing Workshop 3 unit(s) (WID).
  • Semester 2:
    • Students take 9 units of the EVCC Associate Degree in Nursing Program.
    • SJSU NURS 171 Theoretical Foundations 3 unit(s).
  • Semester 3:
    • Students 9 units of the EVCC Associate Degree in Nursing Program.
    • SJSU elective course 3 units.
    • SJSU NURS 112 Professional Practice Success I.
  • Semester 4:
    • Students to take 9 units of the EVCC Associate Degree in Nursing Program.
    • SJSU Upper Division Area V Cultures and Global Understanding.
    • SJSU NURS 113 Professional Practice Success II.
    • Students completing semester four apply and pass the NCLEX-RN examination before entering into the final semester of the CEP program.
  • Semester 5:
    • SJSU NURS 172R Community Health Theory 3 unit(s) Area 2/5
    • SJSU NURS 173 Community Health Practicum 3 units(s)
    • SJSU NURS 177A Preceptorship Project 3 unit(s)

Major-Specific Graduation Requirements

All courses required in the major require a grade of “C” or better or “Credit” (see admission impaction supplemental criteria for exceptions ). In addition, students must pass background and drug clearances. Policies are posted on The Valley Foundation School of Nursing website.

1. Complete the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements


Students must satisfy the specific degree requirements for their undergraduate major and fulfill the following University degree requirements: 

  1. Academic (program total units with an average 2.0 GPA - “C” or better)

  2. General Education (GE) (34 Lower Division + 9 Upper Division)

  3. American Institutions (AI) (0-6 units) (may be satisfied in GE Areas 3A, 3B, 4, UD 3, or UD 4)

  4. Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) 3 units (see Writing in the Disciplines

  5. Physical Education (PE) (0-2 units)

  6. Units in Residence (30 units, including 24 upper division and 12 in major)

  7. Upper Division Units (40 units, including 12 upper div in major for BA, 18 upper div in major for BS)

Students admitted to the program will receive 20 units of credit for passage of the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses.
