The interdisciplinary American Studies minor, offered by the Department of Humanities , provides students the opportunity to study the cultures and society of the United States. In addition, there is an emphasis on analytic skills, close reasoning, and effective communication, providing useful preparation for graduate study, for elementary or secondary teaching, or for careers in law, public service, journalism, non-profit work, activism, creative work, or public service.

University Graduation Requirements

Minor preparation or minor support courses do not count toward the 12 distinct units. Of the coursework for the minor, at least 6 units must be completed in residence at SJSU.
