Introduction to the use of large collections of computer-readable text (“corpora”) in linguistics. Focus on text processing techniques and quantitative data analysis. Other topics: philosophical foundations; lexical resources; the WWW as corpus; applications to stylistics.

Prerequisite(s): LING 101  and prior programming experience, or instructor consent.
