Industrial Technology, Computer Network System Management Concentration, BS

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology with a concentration in Computer Network System Management (CNSM), offered by the Department of Aviation and Technology , is designed to prepare graduates for the ever increasing employment opportunities in the field of Computer Network Systems and Management. You will gain knowledge, skills, and practical experiences in the Internet of Things (IoT), network theory and administration, wireless communication, network security and prevention management, and cyber security management.

The computer network professional plans for implementation of systems, maintains the software and hardware, monitors the system for potential disturbances, analyzes problems, and develops plans for potential solutions. A computer network specialist professional is a problem solver who assures the network system is operational, secure, and protected at all times against cyber-attacks.

Computer and networking professionals are employed to facilitate the exchange and use of data in an organization in furtherance of organization goals. They also protect individuals, companies, and government organizations and their information throughout the enterprise. This requires that such professionals be knowledgeable about and familiar with constantly changing technologies and security processes. The major priority of the computer networking specialist professional is the day-to-day support that keeps the network functioning and secure. Graduates of the BSIT in Computer Network System Management will be able to:

  2. Use skills in team development, dynamics, and management to work as team players
  3. Demonstrate ethical behavior and concern for colleagues, society, and the environment
  4. Demonstrate leadership skills for a technology professional
  5. Implement and manage computer and network systems
  6. Solve problems related to daily interruptions of information flow
  7. Design and interface components for connected products
  8. Manage databases and cloud computing systems and services
  9. Implement and manage Internet of Things (IoT) systems
  10. Apply cybersecurity techniques to protect networks from attacks

University Requirements (24 units)


Core Lower Division General Education (18 units)


Of the 39 units required by the university, 21 units may be satisfied by coursework outlined below. Courses that meet GE Areas A1, A2, A3 or B4 must be passed with a “C-” or better to meet the requirement. Consult with major advisor for details.

Upper Division General Education


Of the 9 units required by the university, 9 units may be satisfied by coursework outlined below. Consult with major advisor for details.

American Institutions (6 units)


The 6 units of American Institutions (US123) coursework shown below also fulfills GE Areas D2 and D3. Other courses meet the American Institutions requirement, but may not include additional GE areas. The American Studies (AMS 1A /AMS 1B ) and Humanities Honors (HUM 1A /HUM 1B , HUM 2A /HUM 2B ) programs both offer larger integrated packages that meet this requirement. Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement


At SJSU, students must pass both the SJSU Writing Skills Test (WST) and a 100W course. Exceptions to the GWAR may be found at Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) .

A grade of C or better (C- not accepted) is required to meet graduation requirement.

Major Requirements (54 units)


To qualify for a baccalaureate degree in Industrial Technology with a concentration in Computer Network System Management, students must earn a grade of “C-” or better in each major and preparation course.
