NURS 205W - Wound Care

A theory-based continuing education course incorporating simulation, psychomotor skills, and clinical practice. Students develop the knowledge and skills to assess selected disorders of the integumentary and arterial-venous systems and mange wounds, fistulas, percutaneous tubes, and pressure ulcers. 

Lecture 4 hours; Laboratory 2 hours. 

Prerequisite(s): RN with a minimum of a Baccalaureate degree and at least one year of clinical nursing experience post RN licensure.
Grading: Letter Graded

Note(s): The course consists of 60 hours of didactic learning and 40 hours of practicum. Duration of the didactic portion is five weeks but practicum can be completed within six months upon completion of the didactic portion.  Students are required to achieve a final score of at least 80% on the didactic portion and a passing credit in practicum.  Upon completion of all the requirements, students will be eligible to take the wound specialty exam offered by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB).
