METR 116 - Impacts of Extreme Weather under Climate Change

Introduction to the science of contemporary climate change and shifts in the character of impactful extreme weather events like heatwaves, cold spells, droughts, extreme rainfall, wildfires, tropical cyclones, coastal flooding incidents, and tornadoes. Quantifying the impacts of these events on society is often done in dollar amounts and thus a substantial portion of the class is dedicated to how economic principles can be used tomeasure the magnitude of extreme weather impacts. 

Satisfies SJSU Studies R: Earth & Environment.

Prerequisite(s): Passage of the Writing Skills Test (WST) or ENGL 100A  / LLD 100A   with a C or better (C- not accepted), completion of Core General Education and upper division standing are prerequisites to all SJSU studies courses. Completion of, or co-registration in, 100W is strongly recommended.
Grading: Letter Grade

Note(s): All of SJSU Studies courses require completion of the WST and upper division standing.
