MATE 175 - Biomaterials 3 unit(s) Properties, function, design, characterization, and evaluation of biomaterials used in biosensors, drug delivery systems, bioimaging, biofilms, biocoatings, and bio/nano applications. Fundamental materials properties and chemistry of inorganic biomaterials such as ceramics, metals, composites, glasses; and organic biomaterials including DNA/RNA/protein/peptide systems, polymers, and hydrogels. Interconnectedness of the structure/processing/property relationship and processing conditions and their effect on resulting physical and mechanical properties.
Prerequisite(s): MATE 25 with a grade of “C-” or better. Grading: Letter Graded
