WGSS 135 - Trans Studies: Identities, Embodiment, & Politics 3 unit(s) Introduction to the field of transgender studies. A look at the present moment of transgender experience and embodiment through the lenses of history, science, institutions, cultural production, and activism. Explores the past and future of trans, transgender, intersex, nonbinary, genderqueer, and transsexual people. Working with the assertion that “the personal is political” that emerged from Feminist of Color scholarship, course is also attentive to questions of race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, legal status, and ability, while introducing transgender identity and politics.
Prerequisite(s): Upper Division standing or instructor consent. Grading: Letter Graded
