Survey of American literature from the end of the Civil War to the end of World War II, with possible topics including textual manifestations of increasing urbanization and immigration, the results of emancipation and the legacies of slavery, and/or the rise of distinctive literary movements like Realism and Modernism.

Course may be repeated for credit for up to 8 units.
