The Minor in Digital Media Art, offered by the Department of Art and Art History , allows students to learn specialized skills in interactive digital media and 3D digital fabrication for application in a variety of creative projects. Digital Media Art courses emphasize concept-development and creative innovation, building on technical skills in web coding, virtual reality, digital fabrication, and interactive installations. Students graduating with a Minor in Digital Media Art will be conversant in the historical, theoretical, and technological aspects of digital media across an array of platforms. For Art majors in other media (eg. Pictorial Art or Spatial Art), the Minor in Digital Media Art facilitates the acquisition of an interdisciplinary art practice incorporating digital technologies. For non-Art majors, it develops both technical and conceptual skills in computer and web-based creative work. The Minor in Digital Media Art allows students to learn the following media and technologies: creative web development; computer-based gaming; digital fabrication of 3-D objects; interactive installations using a variety of digital and screen/projection technologies; software coding for artistic purposes; and motion capture.
