Education Specialist Preliminary Teaching Credential: Extensive Support Needs

All candidates participating in the Education Specialist Extensive Support Needs Credential Program, offered by the Department of Special Education , are prepared to provide instruction and special education support to students in transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, grades 1-12 through age 22, and classes organized primarily for adults with extensive support needs related to one or more of the following disabilities: autism, deafblind, emotional disturbance, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, specific learning disability, and traumatic brain injury. Candidates must meet Teacher Performance Expectations set forth by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Optional Internship
Candidates enrolled in this option may complete the advanced fieldwork requirement of the credential program as an intern, which allows them employment as a special education teacher while taking courses at SJSU.
