Overview
The Department of Educational Leadership prepares leaders to champion anti-racist and emancipatory approaches to leadership. We equip our graduates with the skills, knowledge, and experience to engage with and learn from the community cultural wealth of the diverse communities we serve.
The department offers undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and certificate programs. The Ed.D. program in Educational Leadership emphasizes social justice and human centered approaches to educational leadership. The program builds on the view that educational leaders serve in learner-centered systems in which inquiry, learning, equity and social justice, and human care are central concerns. The program’s vision is to prepare the next generation of leaders with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to understand the causes of inequitable outcomes in PK-12 and higher educational institutions. Students in this program assess and develop pedagogies, practices, policies, and curricula that hold the potential to improve the life chances of all students, especially minoritized students.
The department offers a streamlined pathway from the MA to the Ed.D. to students in the Emancipatory School Leadership Program (MELS) and the Higher Education Leadership Program (HELM). Eligible students must be currently enrolled in the MELS or HELM program in good academic standing, with no probation and/or academic notices, and with intentions to pursue an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership.
