Overview
Aerospace engineers research, design, and develop high-speed transportation vehicles, such as airplanes, spacecraft, space stations, planetary vehicles, and space probes. Approximately half of all aerospace engineers work in the aerospace industry (e.g. Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, Cessna, etc.), 15% work for government agencies (e.g. NASA, Department of Defense, etc.), and the rest work in engineering services, research, testing, and navigation functions. Aerospace engineers also work in industries not associated with aerospace, such as automotive, where they work on the improvement of the aerodynamics of automobiles, as well as in other areas, as allowed by the breadth of their preparation. Students in our program have opportunities to participate in international design-build-fly competitions (e.g. AIAA Design-Build-Fly, SAE Aero Design, Spaceport America Cup) or work with NASA engineers to design-build-test and launch microsatellites into space (NASA TechEdSat). The Aerospace Engineering Bachelor of Science degree program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the General Program Criteria and the Aerospace and Similarly Named Engineering Programs Program Criteria.

Spartan Accelerated Graduate Education (SAGE) Scholars
Spartan Accelerated Graduate Education (SAGE) Programs programs are combined bachelor’s and master’s programs at SJSU (per University Policy F19-1). Sometimes they may also satisfy the requirements for a credential. Students in these programs pursue a bachelor’s and master’s degree simultaneously. These program allow students to earn graduate credit while in their junior and/or senior year, reducing the number of semesters required for completion of a master’s degree.
