MS 241 - Advanced Geological Oceanography

Geological Oceanography (also known as Marine Geology) is the study of the past and present geological processes that occur on earth’s largest habitat: the oceans. Topics covered include: types and composition of marine rocks and sediments, the shape of the ocean basins, processes occurring in the earth’s lithosphere and how they are interpreted within the broad theory of Plate Tectonics and interactions between geological processes, oceanography and biology in different marine habitats. Includes California’s regional geology with visits on local outcrops.

Lecture 2 hours/Lab/Field 6 hours.

Satisfies GWAR: Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement.

Grading: Letter graded.
