BME 258 - Medical Imaging for Engineers

Introduction to the principles and clinical applications of medical imaging. Interaction of radiation with matter. Image acquisition and manipulation. Clinical imaging techniques: X-ray radiography and computed tomography, ultrasound imaging, magnetic resonance imaging. Safety considerations. Computer laboratory: image enhancement, segmentation, contouring.

Lecture 2 hours/Lab 3 hours.

Prerequisite(s): PHYS 51, MATH 33A or MATH 33LA, BME 177, and BME 210. Or Instructor consent.
