2023-2024 Academic Catalog [ARCHIVED CATALOG]

Message from the President

Dear Spartans,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 academic year at San José State University!

This academic catalog is designed to help you find the classes that will advance your educational journey and toward completion of your valued degree.

In this guide, you will see courses for more than 140 degrees at the bachelor’s level, nearly 100 master’s programs, four doctoral programs and a variety of credential, certificate and other programs. Whatever your passions, we have the classes that will help you achieve your career goals.

College is more than classes, of course, and I want you to get the most out of your time at SJSU. Here are some ways to make your time here successful and special.

  • Find your fit and make new friends by exploring more than 400 recognized student groups (RSOs) that span a wide range of interests and topics.

  • Watch for interesting and entertaining events on the Sammy App and the Events Calendar on our university homepage

  • Talk with your instructors about the many hands-on learning opportunities available to undergraduates across all of our colleges. Many of these activities occur outside the classroom and provide real-life experience that employers find attractive.

  • Leverage the expertise and resources of your college-based Student Success Center  or, if you are still considering which major to pursue, visit the Exploratory Student Success Center on the first floor of the Administration Building.

  • Take advantage of late-night online tutoring from the MLK Jr. Library, which you can access in-person or online.

  • If you find yourself confronting an unexpected financial, food or housing emergency, reach out to SJSU Cares online or by stopping by the office on the first floor of Clark Hall.

You are about to embark on a new year of self-discovery, learning, engagement and belonging with your fellow Spartans. The experiences you have here will prepare you for any career you choose, and forge memories that will last a lifetime. In a few years, I look forward to adding your name to our growing list of notable Spartan alums making a difference locally and globally.

It’s great to have you here at SJSU!

Sincerely,

Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson
President
