The Finance Spartan Accelerated Graduate Education (SAGE) Programs enables qualified students in the BSBA Finance program to simultaneously complete the requirements for both the baccalaureate and master’s degrees. Students can progress from undergraduate to graduate status seamlessly, with a simplified application process and no application fee, and complete both degrees in less time as compared to completing them separately. This will provide cost savings to the student.

Admission Requirements

All finance undergraduates are eligible to apply for, and be admitted to, the SAGE Finance program in Spring semester of their junior year if they fulfill the following requirements by June 1 of that year:

Completed a minimum of 90 units towards the BS degree;
Completed BUS1 170 (Fundamentals of Finance) and BUS2 90 (Business Statistics) with grades of B or better;
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better, or GPA of 3.2 or better in the last 60 semester units;
Completed all lower division GE requirements.

In cases where demand from qualified applicants exceeds available placements in the program, admission decisions will be determined by evaluating student GPAs, performance in prerequisite courses, and conducting interviews.

Those who qualify for the SAGE program but are not admitted are eligible for regular MSF admission.

Graduate Standing Requirements

Requirements for program continuation and advancement to candidacy in the graduate program, include:

Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher with no individual course grade below a C.
Students not maintaining these standards will be placed on probation initially, followed by disqualification if grades are not improved.
A GPA of 3.0 is required to earn the SAGE Finance degree.

The following roadmap is a sample advising map to complete the SAGE Scholars program in 5 years. Please consult your major advisor as you develop your individualized academic plan. Students must have completed 60+ units in order to enroll in SJSU Studies courses.

Note: The standalone Business Administration, Finance Concentration, BS program requires the completion of 9 units of required electives. Students satisfy 6 of these elective units in this SAGE Scholars Program by completing BUS 220A and BUS 273 . BUS 220A is a required course in the Financial Analytics, MS program while BUS 273 is an elective option. These 6 units are considered to count toward both the graduate and undergraduate degrees, thus allowing SAGE students to meet the minimum unit requirements for both degrees.

A minimum of 144 units is required for this degree.
