Business Administration, Human Resource Management Concentration, BS


The program offered by the School of Management  provides the academic foundation for careers concerned with activities related to creating and sustaining the competitive advantage of organizations through the effective management of human capital. This area of study is concerned with both the strategic and current day-to-day activities in areas such as performance management, human resource planning and information systems, recruitment and staffing, training and employee development, compensation and benefits and union-management relations in an environment that changes rapidly due to competition, globalization, diversity, technology and laws. The program qualifies graduates for positions in private sector, non-profit and public sector organizations.

Major-Specific Graduation Requirements

All courses in the Concentration Requirements for Human Resource Management must be completed with a grade of “C- or better”. The following Preparation for the Major and Required for the Major courses must be completed with a grade of “C or better”: ENGL 2 , MATH 70 , BUS1 20 , BUS2 90 .

1. Complete the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements


Students must satisfy the specific degree requirements for their undergraduate major and fulfill the following University degree requirements: 

  1. Academic  (program total units with an average 2.0 GPA - “C” or better)

  2. General Education (GE)  (34 Lower Division + 9 Upper Division)

  3. American Institutions (AI)  (0-6 units) (may be satisfied in GE Areas 3B, 4, UD 3, UD 4)

  4. Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR)  (3 units)

  5. Physical Education (PE)  (0-2 units)

  6. Units in Residence  (30 units, including 24 upper division and 12 in major) 

  7. Upper Division Units  (40 units, including 12 upper div in major for BA, 18 upper div in major for BS)​

Exceptions for University Graduation Requirements including exemptions and waivers, are approved for specific majors and on a case-by-case evaluation only.

Additionally, to qualify for a baccalaureate degree in business administration with a Human Resource Management concentration, all courses in the concentration must be completed with a grade of “C- or Better”.
