Sculpture Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Majors and Programs

The Minor in Sculpture, offered by the Department of Art and Art History , allows students to develop skills in visual creativity and three dimensional art practice that will add valuable breadth and career flexibility to their primary degree. Sculpture courses emphasize concept-development and cultural critique in addition to technical skill-building. Students graduating with a Minor in Sculpture will be conversant in the historical, theoretical, and practical aspects of three-dimensional artmaking. For Art majors in other media (eg. Pictorial Art or Photography), the Minor in Sculpture facilitates the acquisition of interdisciplinary art practice. For non-Art majors, it develops both manual and conceptual capacities for three-dimensional expression. The Minor in Sculpture allows students to build skills in the following: woodworking; glass blowing and casting; jewelry and small metals; mold-making and casting in bronze, aluminum, and other materials; welding; installation art; figure modeling; and mixed-media sculpture. Students who are specifically interested in ceramic media should consider the Ceramic Art Minor  instead.
