Overview

Anthropology Program

Anthropology majors study how humans live and have lived, present and past, and apply that knowledge to contemporary issues, learning how to articulate an anthropological perspective on human behavior. Our students develop skills in research, data analysis and clear and effective communication, preparing them to live in a complex, culturally diverse world. The Department of Anthropology’s core curriculum provides an overview to the discipline as well as courses in cultural anthropology, archaeology, and physical anthropology. There are many opportunities for students to engage in research and service projects, and our faculty are scholars who bring their research into the classroom to enhance learning. We offer a BA in anthropology, an MA in applied anthropology, a BA in behavioral science, and a BA in organizational studies. Our graduates pursue careers in a wide range of professions, including law, medicine, business, social work, and health care.

Behavioral Sciences Program

Behavioral science majors develop an interdisciplinary perspective on human behavior and an understanding of the psychological, social and cultural dimensions to being human in a complex society. Offered cooperatively by the Departments of Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology, the Behavioral Science Program is housed in the Department of Anthropology, which oversees academic advising. The program prepares graduates for a variety of jobs that require working with social science data and with people. Many of our alumni have pursued graduate work in health care, social work, human resources, and other fields. The Department of Anthropology provides all academic advising for the Behavioral Science Program.
