MUED 370 - Methods and Principles of Music Education

Methods and Principles of Music Education is a course designed to help pre-professional music educators gain tools for teaching K-12 music in public schools. The study of methods of teaching music, as well as effective methods of assessment and evaluation will be the focus. Assessment, error detection and aural training so the ensemble teacher learns to listen attentively is a skill that will be developed each class. Topics to be explored will include study of music literature appropriate for a variety of levels and learning styles, methodology involving sight-reading and strengthening musicianship, methods of building a music program and best practice rehearsal techniques, and issues pertaining to the development of a music ensemble. In addition, elementary methods including Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze will be included.

Prerequisite(s): MUED 170A , MUED 170B .
