AE 256 - Multifunctional Materials in Aerospace Engineering 3 unit(s) Course explores multifunctional materials that combine structural, sensing, actuation, and energy functions for lightweight aerospace applications. Students study the coupled-field theories in piezoelectric materials, active materials, multifunctional composites, and metamaterials, applying these principles to adaptive structures, morphing wings, and deployable space systems through case studies and multidisciplinary design projects.
Prerequisite(s): Graduate Standing in AE or Instructor consent. Grading: Letter Graded
