BME 147 - Quantitative and Statistical Methods for Biomedical Engineers 4 unit(s) Principles of experimental design; types of data and variables; descriptive statistics; elements of probability; probability distributions; sampling distributions and the Central Limit Theorem; hypothesis testing: ANOVA, one-sample and two-sample t-test, multiple comparisons, confidence intervals; power analysis; linear regression; statistical approach to medical device design; statistical process control; programming for statistical analysis (R); discrete vs continuous random variables; independence of variables; expectation and variance of random variables; conditional probability; joint and marginal probability distributions; covariance matrices; Bayes’ theorem.

Prerequisite(s): MATH 32 (with a grade of “C-” or better) and BIOL 30 . Grading: Letter Graded
