CHAD 132 - Education from a Global Perspective

Explores the meaing of education as a concept, or philosophy, both within the US and around the globe. Concepts of education, such as education as empowerment or education as meeting national goals, are examined. Explores how educational traditions outside the US have influenced American education systems (with respect to culture and societal norms), how cultures develop distinctive education systems and how those education systems interact with education systems in other cultures. Provides a foundation for understanding K-8 visual and performing arts standards as well as standards for K-8 history and social studies. SJSU Studies Area: V
