Latin American Studies Minor

Overview

The interdepartmental minor in Latin American Studies is designed to complement a wide variety of academic majors by providing knowledge of Latin American affairs, culture and politics. Courses may be selected from art, world languages and literatures, history, Chicana and Chicano studies, philosophy, political science and theatre arts.

University Graduation Requirements

To be awarded a minor, at least 12 units of coursework must be completely distinct and separate from the coursework in the major (University Policy S16-4).

Minor Requirements (19 units)


Novice high proficiency (ACTFL scale) as determined by the LAS advisor in Spanish, Portuguese or French.

Total Units Required (19 units)


New courses, or courses not listed above, with content directly relevant to the study of Latin America, may be substituted for any of the electives on approval of coordinator.
